Officials
Why you should join our bench:

Sports Offered:
Baseball, basketball, broomball, football (flag and tackle), hockey, kickball, soccer, softball and volleyball
Ages:
- Officials 18+ are eligible to work both youth and adult sports
- Officials 16 - 17 are eligible to work 15U games and under
- Officials 14 - 15 are eligible to work 11U game and under
Hours:
Schedule will vary per week and by sport but will primarily be:
- Weekdays: evenings
Weekends: mornings, afternoons and evenings
Job Duties:
- Knowledgeable of the rules and mechanics of each sport assigned
- Enforce the rules and exercise authority in an impartial, firm, and controlled manner
- Communicate your calls clearly and effectively
- Uphold the honor and dignity of the profession; respect to all parties involved in the event, including employees, volunteers, players, coaches, and parents
- Promote MPRB’s good sportsmanship code of conduct before, during, and after the event
- Purchase and wear the appropriate uniform at each event
- Consistent punctuality for each assignment
- Enter game scores and post- game reports via Team Sideline within 24 hours of the completed assignment
- Update contact information, availability blocks, and track hours for invoicing
- Confirm and reject assignments in a timely manner
- Ensure a safe environment for all park users by providing education about MPRB policies and procedures
- Act immediately to address inappropriate behaviors by contacting appropriate staff or other emergency personnel as necessary
- Oversee park supplies for athletic games and properly disinfect them on return
- Provide guidance for athletic league participants during scheduled times
- Monitor park activity and attendance; write incident reports and recommendation reports related to park use
- Provide and promote recreation opportunities on site and provide information on other park programs
- Distribute flyers to promote activities and park programs
- Act as facility attendant and greeter for park events
Other Requirements:
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with a diverse community using courtesy, tact, and good judgement
- Explain and enforce rules of conduct or other applicable MPRB and City of Minneapolis rules and policies
- Understand and interpret rules of your sport
- Exercise authority appropriate to various circumstances
- Work independently with general supervision
- Work outside in all types of weather conditions
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Ability to perform assigned work independently and responsibly, as well as part of a team
- Ability to maintain consistent and punctual attendance
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and complete physical tasks (lift, carry, pull, etc.)
- Ability to use technology (i.e., Team Sideline, computers, Smartphones, etc.)
- Pass a background check

Court or Field Supervisor
We're Hiring Outdoor Supervisors!
- The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is looking for friendly, dependable, and hardworking individuals who enjoy supporting a fun and active sports community.
Court and Field Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Setting up and taking down court or field boundaries
- Ensuring courts or fields are ready and safe for play
- Welcoming participants
- Creating a positive and organized environment
- Work closely with game officials to keep leagues running smoothly
Details:
- Season and schedule will vary. Hours will primarily be weekday evenings as well as time on the weekend (mornings, afternoons, and evenings)
- One year of experience involving extensive interaction with the public preferred
- $15-$20 per game, plus $30 for setup/teardown of courts/fields
Ages:
- Court supervisors must be 18 years or older
Other Requirements:

MPRB Athletics Hiring Process
- Thank you for your interest in joining our team! Please complete the Intake Form (link in step 1. below) so we can find the best fit for you. Once we receive your form, we will respond to you within three business days with more information on the next steps for you. We will also share details on the position (or positions) you are interested in.
- All the job titles listed on the intake form fall under the title of ‘Athletics Contractor.’ It is all encompassing whether you are an official, court or field supervisor, or a clinician/instructor. These are independent contractor positions, meaning you are not an employee, but instead an individual/sole proprietor, you are your own business. You are required to register with the City of Minneapolis as a vendor to get paid for your services.
- You will also be required to pass a background check annually to work as an independent contractor for the MPRB.
The complete process to joining the MPRB team is:
- Complete the Intake Form
- Create a Team Sideline account and register as an official
- Register as an eSupplier with the City of Minneapolis and submit city paperwork (W-9 and direct deposit form)
- Complete the (free) NFHS Learning Center "Concussion in Sports" Certificate online
- Review and sign an independent contractor agreement or contract, depending upon the position
- Pass a background check
