Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's (MPRB) new archery league is open to youth, adults, and families to build their skills and compete within their respective age divisions and as a family group. Join the fun each week as we watch 'em fly!



Program Information
Overview
- This new archery league is open to youth, adults, and families to build their skills and compete within their respective age divisions and as a family group
- Participants will submit weekly scores to be tallied throughout the season
- Instructors will coach proper archer form, shot execution, and follow-through
- The league will be held indoors following the National Archery in Schools Program regimen taught in over 12,000 schools throughout the country
- Equipment is standardized to be safe, durable, and universally fit any student
MPRB Archery League Schedules & Scores
- Youth Archery League schedules and scores will be viewable through our online league management software. It is a web-based program and can be viewed from anywhere.
- Park directors will be notified when they are available for viewing you will then use the following steps to get your team’s schedule
Coaches
Become a coach and join us on the range! Ask about becoming a certified archery coach for our archery program! For additional questions please contact the league director or Peter Jaeger at pejaeger@minneapolisparks.org
- Agree to the Coaches Code of Ethics
- Complete the National Archery In the Schools NASP coaches' certification class
- Background checks: Coaches must provide an email address
Coaches will receive an email asking them to complete a background check online. To avoid any delay to the start of your volunteering, be aware that once it is sent, you will have three days to complete the online form before the link will expire.

MPRB League Rules
- The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) plays by shooting rules based on the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)
- Any rules not posted on this bulletin will be referred to the NASP rulebook
- NASP National & Championship Tournament Rules
- You MUST attend first week archery safety instruction and league rules to participate
- There will be seven scoring sessions held weekly and each archer must submit a minimum of six scores. If an archer cannot attend a week, they must make up a time at another park location.
- Awards and season end celebration will be held on the final class dates
Target Distance
- 10 meters
Bows
- Archers are expected to use provided Genesis™ bows or bring their own original Genesis™ bows
- No other bows will be allowed
Arrows
- Archers must use provided arrows
- No outside arrows will be allowed
Accessories
- Finger tabs, tape, or gloves may be worn on draw-hand fingers
- Wrist protectors and chest protectors are allowed
- Glasses and eye patches are allowed
Tie Scores
- Tiebreakers will result in a shoot off
- A 5-arrow warm-up end at 10 meters
- Then a 5-arrow end competitive end at 10 meters
- If the tie persists, a single arrow shot from 10 meters, closest to the middle of the target's center will break the tie
Range Set-Up
- Targets will be placed directly on the floor
- The waiting line will be 2-3 meters away from shooting line
- Coaches will be responsible to score participants rounds
- Shooting lanes will be five feet, accommodating two archers per lane
Whistle Signals
- NASP® whistle commands will be used to operate the range
- 5+ whistles for an emergency if necessary
- 2 whistles to 'get bow'
- 1 whistle to 'shoot'
- 3 whistles to 'go get arrows'
Order of Shooting
- The archer must nock, pre-draw, draw and aim in a manner that keeps the arrow pointed safely toward the target throughout the process
- Shooting position must consist of one foot in front of and one foot behind the shooting line
- Optional two warm up rounds are available for each archer before scoring rounds begin
Scoring
- Only archers, coaches, or approved volunteers will be allowed downrange of the waiting line
- An archery round consists of 5 arrows; maximum score is 50 points
- Six rounds must be entered each night; maximum score is 300 points
- All arrows should be scored before any arrow or the target's face is touched
- An arrow shaft touching a scoring ring line is awarded the higher point value
- An arrow outside all scoring rings is awarded 0 points
- An arrow that deflects off another arrow and fails to stick in the target is treated as a bounce out
- If archers cannot agree on an arrow's score, the archery coach must be asked for the final decision
Scorecard
- Scorecard must be filled out every week by league participants. Including name, grade, and park.
- The Archery League season consists of six completed scorecards submitted to the archery coach
- Week one scorecard will be held for optional use: available for a missed week by archer
Dress Code
- Necklaces shall not be worn by players during warm-ups and/or competition
- Large baggy shirts and hoodies shall not be worn during warm-ups and/ or competition
- Shoes must be worn; bare feet are not allowed
- Long hair should be placed into a pony-tail or alternative method to keep haired pulled behind the head
Ejections
- Any ejection will be reviewed by the league directors and may result in additional suspension or penalty
